In a world where a lot of people want to work remotely, some companies are moving away from traditional teams and allowing collaboration from many people in many areas. This makes it simple to connect if, for example, your company has more than one location.

When your team is scattered, it can be hard to get everyone on the same page. Here are a few tips to make a remote team work seamlessly.

Make sure you’re all on the same page with security

When you work in an office, you have an IT team to make sure all security is up to date and there are no threats. When a lot of work is taking place on personal machines, it’s important that your work files are protected. Make sure everyone has the same level of security on their computers.

Create Schedules

A lot of people enjoy working remotely to avoid boring meetings and other tedious tasks. It’s still important to schedule times to make sure everyone understands what is going on and their role. This gives everyone the opportunity to not only check in with you, but to talk to everyone else on the team, which they might rarely do.

Use a variety of communication methods to keep in touch

If one person prefers Skype but another only checks their email, you should use the one each member likes best to ensure that you can get in touch with them.

Make sure you remember everyone, especially when promotions and social opportunities come around. It can be easy to overlook people when you don’t see them every day. If your workers are remote but still in the same area, make sure they get the memo about holiday get-togethers and parties so they can still join in the fun.

Lastly, make sure your workers are productive, but not too productive

Set goals and tasks to judge who is right for the job and who isn’t as productive working remotely. It can be easy to get less work done, especially when you’re working remotely at home. On the other hand, some people can get a lot more work done without the distractions of the office. Keep track of them and ensure that they aren’t overworking themselves and burning out.

The important thing is to keep in contact with your team and pay attention to things that might not be as evident if you don’t see people in the office every day.
